HAILS uses Machine Learning
HAILS, also known as the Hand Sign Artificial Intelligence Learning System, is a web application that aims to enhance the learning experience of individuals who are interested in American Sign Language (ASL). This application employs machine learning and computer vision technology to detect and recognize hand gestures, making it easier for users to learn and practice sign language. With the use of some training algorithms, HAILS is capable of recognizing various ASL signs, thus enabling learners to enjoy while learning.
Software Development Process
For the development, we used Agile Methodology as our software development management. We decided to slightly gamify the application to make it more interactional and engaging.
Moreover, we wanted to make the application beneficial for the future, not only for our users but for society as a whole. We realized that using things that are seen and experienced every day by a lot of people would help raise awareness and increase exposure to American Sign Language (ASL). By using ASL signs that are commonly used in everyday situations, we hoped to make the application more practical and useful for our users, and help promote inclusivity and accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing communities.
